Six world-class stocks that could pay larger and larger dividends for decades

From Dividend Monk:

When building a dividend-growth portfolio, finding high-quality companies that will continue paying larger and larger dividends for decades rather than just the next few years is important. The longer you can hold onto shares of a company, the lower your trading costs and taxes will be compared to what they would be if you trade often.
But this is only a good strategy if the companies you hold onto continue growing shareholder value.
So the key is to look for companies that, among other things:
a) Have a large and sustainable competitive advantage.
b) Are in an industry that is timeless, or nearly so.
c) Are in a solid financial position.
Here are six sample companies... JNJ, LOW, MCD, WMT, MDT, CVX

The great Richard Russell on how anyone can become rich

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

From Richard Russell on LewRockwell.com:

MAKING MONEY: The most popular piece I've published in 40 years of writing these letters was titled, "Rich Man, Poor Man." I have had dozens of requests to run this piece again or for permission to reprint it for various business organizations.

Making money entails a lot more than predicting which way the stock or bond markets are heading or trying to figure which stock or fund will double over the next few years. For the great majority of investors, making money requires a plan, self-discipline and desire.

I say, "for the great majority of people" because if you're a Steven Spielberg or a Bill Gates, you don't have to know about the Dow or the markets or about yields or price/earnings ratios. You're a phenomenon in your own field, and you're going to make big money as a by-product of your talent and ability. But this kind of genius is rare.

For the average investor, you and me, we're not geniuses so we have to have a financial plan. In view of this, I offer below a few items that we must be aware of if we are serious about making money...

These stocks could see big dividend increases this year

From Dividends Value:
In this space we normally look at companies that have recently raised their dividends. However, as the year draws to a close there were very few companies of note increasing their dividends this week.
With that, I thought it would be interesting to see who were the big dividend-raisers in 2010 and what we might see in 2011.
Here are 10 companies for your consideration:
Abbott Laboratories (ABT) in April 2010 raised its dividend 10% to $0.44/share from $0.40/share. In April 2009 it raised its dividend 11%. ABT has increased its dividend for 38 consecutive years and I expect them to...

The best dividend stocks in the U.S.

From The Dividend Guy Blog:

Back in August, I created a filter to find the best U.S. dividend stocks. My criteria were the following:

- Dividend yield over 3%
- Stock price over $10.00
- Payout Ratio under 60%

Then, with your comments, I decided to pull out another search for the top US dividend stocks by changing my filters for the following:

- Dividend yield over 3%
- Maximum dividend yield 7%
- Payout Ratio under 60%
- Dividend growth (min 5% annualized growth over 5 years)
- P/E ratio under 15

As you can see, we have taken out...

Five top dividend stocks on sale today

From Dividend Monk:

Everyone loves a good value. In search of one, it makes sense for most investors to be looking for high quality companies trading for a good price rather than mediocre companies trading at bargain prices.
Companies on this list each face certain risks and are not necessarily recommendations, but they may not be a bad place to look for some solid dividend investments. So, without further delay, here’s five high-quality names currently on the discount rack...

Four essential traits of all great dividend stocks

From Dividends Value:

... Dividend growth investing is not about exit points, momentum swings, relative strength, sector rotation; instead it is about studying fundamentals, selecting superior stocks, and building a portfolio with a long-term horizon. When we buy a dividend stock, we hope to hold it forever.
What makes a good dividend stock? Here are some of the things I look for...
